Creative Craft Show

October 2018

We had a productive and enjoyable 4 days at the recent Creative Craft Show, SEC Glasgow during 25-28 October 2018.  Our enthusiastic stand volunteers were on hand to show calligraphy, offer advice and give out calligraphy and group information.  Several visitors spent some time trying some calligraphy perhaps starting a new hobby in the future or re-kindling a past interest. More details of the event to follow soon.....

October 2017

Members and group visitors attended our stand in the Scottish Events Campus (SEC), Glasgow during 26 to 29 October 2017.  They were on hand to answer calligraphy questions, to encourage visitors to try some calligraphy, and to give out group information.

Having a corner stand gave us invaluable space for visitors to sit down and try some calligraphy with volunteers giving advice and help as needed.  This year we gave visitors a bookmark instead of leaflets or business cards.

We also sold a significant amount of £1 Information Sheet packs - always good reference when learning new calligraphy scripts!  Next year we hope to have an updated version of the pack/sheets which will be even more useful to event visitors.

The 2017 event was busy and enjoyable with a lot of interest in calligraphy so we look forward to next year's Creative Crafts Show and Crafts for Christmas.

The Creative Craft Show

October 2016

stand was busy with visitors enquiring about calligraphy, materials and classes and trying some calligraphy at our visitor table.  Stand volunteers were available to give assistance and to demonstrate some writing.  Hundreds of Glasgow Scribes contact cards were given out over the four days of Hobbycrafts (27-30 October 2016).  Our members kindly allowed the display of their Annual Exhibition work to be displayed on the back wall of the stand after being on tour over the summer period.  Yet again this year's Hobbycrafts was enjoyable, busy and worthwhile as the Glasgow Scribes got some visitors to our events after the fair.  Thanks to all volunteers who gave up their time to be at our stand and/or give examples of their calligraphy.

October 2015

We had another successful presence at Hobbycrafts, Glasgow, during 22-25 October 2015 - all possible because of the stand given to us by ICHF and our enthusiastic volunteers.  Members gave up a couple of half days to attend the event and/or submitted calligraphy items for display.  They were on hand to answer questions, to encourage visitors to try some calligraphy and to give out information about the Glasgow Scribes.

On the left is Keith Miller who's sitting at the visitor table ready to pass on his writing skills.  We received a lot of interest in calligraphy which was very satisfying - we hope that everyone who came to our stand enjoys learning and doing calligraphy in the future.

This year we were allowed to sell more items for group funds - a group produced box of quotations written by members during the current meeting session and a set of 5 greeting cards produced in a previous session.  We also had 8 information sheets which included some popular scripts such as Roundhand and Italics and which were also used by visitors trying out calligraphy.  Selling items ensures that printing costs are covered and also helps with future calligraphy events and meeting room hire.  Hundreds of A5 leaflets giving general calligraphy and group information were handed out over the four days.

Since the event we've received several enquiries about the group and its activities, some visitors to our meetings and new members.  With stand items filed until next year we look forward to attending Hobbycrafts during October 2016.
