For the second year running, Robert Cook has taken the Sheriff Jim Murphy prize, once again demonstrating an exceptional level of skill, creativity and attention to detail.
This year’s winning entry, Giant Squid Quadriptych, is a fascinating exploration of one beautifully observed drawing of a squid, developed and transformed into four distinct interpretations. Each panel brings something different to the original image, showcasing Robert’s ability to combine detailed drawing with a wonderful variety of calligraphic hands.
The work is a real demonstration of craftsmanship. From the intricate detail of the squid itself to the different lettering styles and treatments, Robert has taken a single fine drawing and pushed it in four imaginative directions. The result is both technically impressive and great fun to explore.
